Help tell someone, women and children have rights

Violence Against women

Thirty five percent (35%) of women world wide have experienced either physical/and or sexual intimate  partner and non partner sexual violence. ( World Bank stats.) Globally 7 % of women have been sexually assaulted by someone other than their partner. The consequences are not always tangible but a deep rooted socio economic setback for society. In the African context where the women is the teacher, caregiver, sometimes the bread winner, the danger of long term consequences is glaring.

Studies have shown children who grow up in a violent environment are more likely to not only be survivors but perpetrators themselves of violence if nothing is done. Women are disproportionately affected by Gender based violence indiscriminate of geographical boundaries. The International community through certain protocols and programs like the resolution 1325 on women and peace and the 16 days of activism program are making efforts to address this ill.

ORAS identifies victims, carry out therapy sessions, and link them with authorities that can also be of help to them. We also engage them in our entrepreneurship programs as a way of addressing the vicious circle between poverty and violence against women.

Its our fight!
